How do I sign up for self-exclusion in Colorado?
Colorado's self-exclusion form is on the official Colorado Division of Gaming (Department of Revenue), under the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission page linked below — there is no fee and no third party needs to be involved.
- 1 Online via the Division of Gaming self-exclusion registration at betsmart.colorado.gov
- 2 In person at a Colorado Division of Gaming office
- 3 By mail: print form DR 9681, have it notarized, and mail it to a Division of Gaming office
Official page: betsmart.colorado.gov/self-exclusion — enroll there directly, never through a third-party site.
How do I get off the Colorado self-exclusion list?
Nobody comes off Colorado's list automatically. You stay excluded after your term ends until you request removal and the Division of Gaming Director approves it.
- Can it be ended early?
- No. The term you pick is the term you serve.
- At the end of the term
- You stay on the list until you apply to come off. Reaching the end date on its own does nothing.
- 1 Wait for the exclusion period you chose to run out - it cannot be lifted early.
- 2 Submit a removal request through the online form or the printable PDF, both linked on the Division of Gaming's Bet Smart self-exclusion page.
- 3 Wait for the Division of Gaming Director to approve it. Until that approval lands you stay on the list and every Colorado casino and sportsbook must keep refusing you.
Tribal casinos (Ute Mountain, Sky Ute) and the state lottery were never covered by the list, so coming off it changes nothing there.
Worth saying plainly: wanting off the list is not the same as being ready to gamble again, and the urge to check usually arrives long before the term does. What actually happens when people come off a self-exclusion list goes through that in full.
Can I use NVSEP in Colorado?
Partly. NVSEP — the National Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program — is a free service that fills in and files state self-exclusion forms for you, and it does file in Colorado. What it reaches here is casinos and iGaming . What NVSEP covers, state by state has the full roster.
What should I watch out for with Colorado self-exclusion?
The state program launched in September 2023, run by the Division of Gaming (previously the Problem Gambling Coalition of Colorado managed the list). It is free and confidential. Tribal casinos (Ute Mountain Casino, Sky Ute Casino) and the state lottery are not under Commission purview and are not covered. Exclusion cannot be revoked before the chosen term ends.
Is self-exclusion enough on its own in Colorado?
Colorado's program only binds operators licensed in the state — offshore sites and crypto casinos ignore it. The setup that holds is layered: self-exclusion, plus a ban inside each betting app you hold, plus a device-level gambling blocker plus a bank-level gambling block. Gambling across the Colorado line?
A state program only binds operators licensed in that state. If you drive to a casino or bet on an app registered next door, you need that state's ban too.
